About Us

Who We Are:

Located on over 5000 acres of privately owned South Texas brushland, TRS is a place of respite and renewal, of escape and inspiration – a blending of mind, body, soul, and spirit. We are primarily a women’s yoga and mindfulness retreat. We are an inspirational getaway for restoration, transformation, and empowerment; a place of introspection, mindfulness, and peace and quiet. TRS sits atop a hill on the historic La Martineña Ranch, a working cattle ranch in Encinal, Texas, recognized by the state of Texas as a Century Ranch, having been owned and operated by the same family for over 150 years. TRS was created in 2020 and is owned and operated by Tami & Robert H. Summers who pride themselves on providing excellent service, top-notch accommodations, and a wealth of knowledge and expertise. Both will be on-premises for the entirety of your stay.

We’ve hosted birthday weekends, friend’s getaways, book clubs, supper clubs, and family get-togethers. If you have an idea, give us a call. We are geared toward adult women (no children, pets or service animals please).

Please note that we are a husband-wife owner/operator team here. We are not affiliated with any mass booking site. We are small and private and have no desires to grow to grandiose heights. We want you to enjoy the sanctity of the land, the quality of our hospitality, and the memory of your experience.

What’s Included:

Nature: It’s hard to beat a big South Texas sky and a panoramic view of nature. Enjoy the unobstructed views of Texas brushland teeming with wildlife – whitetail deer, javelina, coyote, roadrunners, morning dove, quail, and wild turkey to name a few. Add a campfire and a cocktail and life are truly good.

TRS Staff

Tami Summers

Founder Of TRS Ranch Retreats

An educator by trade and a nurturer by nature, Tami sees TRS Ranch Retreats as a natural progression on her path as a teacher. She has over twenty years of experience as a classroom teacher (English, literature, writing) to middle school, high school, and college-level students. She now enjoys teaching gentle and restorative yoga to students of all ages (no papers to grade!) Tami’s new direction in “education” has led her to complete courses in mindfulness, stress reduction, aromatherapy, crystal energy, and restorative and accessible yoga. She is an RYT 500 having completed her training with The School of Gentle Yoga in Encinitas, California.  Tami and Robert have been married and co-creating since 1991. They have two grown children-Carroll and Bailey— and one four-legged child named Truman.

Robert Summers

Founder Of TRS Ranch Retreats

Robert is a fifth-generation rancher and land steward, maintaining a family presence on land purchased in 1870. He credits his mother, Evelyn, for his knowledge of hospitality, his father, Carroll Jr., for all things related to ranching and land management, and his wife for the vision and inspiration behind TRS Ranch Retreats. Robert is also a local business owner (Jiffy Lube) and has been active in civic endeavors for many years. He especially enjoys his role as an auctioneer for local charity auctions and fundraisers. He views this aspect of “ranching” as the next wave, having evolved from sheep to cattle ranching, then to wildlife management, and now to raising good vibrations. Robert and Tami have been married since 1991 and have two grown children – Carroll and Bailey- and one four-legged child named Truman.

Truman Summers

Chief Food Taster

Truman found his forever home with Tami and Robert in December of 2017. He has grown adept at being both a ranch dog and a yoga dog. He takes attendance for each class and enjoys savasana for most of the session. He protects all ranch guests from the whitetail deer, the cattle, and the roadrunners. He also serves as the chief food taster. He’s also a great cuddler.
